KABELJOUS STATE LAND DECLARED

After more than 33 years, the Kabeljous state land has finally been officially declared a Nature Reserve.

For decades, this special area was earmarked for conservation, but the formal process took time to come together. Thanks to the amazing efforts and collaboration of passionate individuals, volunteers, local conservation groups (including the Greater Kabeljous Partnership, Kabeljous Reserve Action Group – KRAG, the Greater Kromme Stewardship, Conservation Outcomes), and other partners — the Kabeljous Nature Reserve was officially declared on 24 October 2025.

This is a huge milestone for local conservation! The reserve now has full protection and long-term security under the National Environmental Management: Protected Areas Act — ensuring this incredible biodiversity (and tourism) gem is safeguarded for generations to come.

The Greater Kromme Stewardship team played a key role in coordinating the process that made this declaration possible.

A heartfelt thank you to everyone — the individuals, volunteers, and organisations — who’ve poured their time and energy into protecting, managing, and caring for Kabeljous over the years. You made this happen!

The Kabeljous Nature Reserve truly shows what’s possible when communities come together to protect nature and make a lasting difference.
