Biodiversity Stewardship options refer to the alternatives available to private landowners that either wish to utilise their land sustainably or set land aside for conservation management. Depending on landowners’ willingness to commit and the relative importance of the biodiversity that is present on your land, the GKS initiative offers four Biodiversity Stewardship options to landowners:
All Biodiversity Stewardship options are completely voluntary.
- You, as the landowner, will retain title (ownership) of the land at all times and continue to manage the property.
- Each option can be tailored to your needs as a landowner.
- The higher Biodiversity Stewardship options offer more benefits and support to landowners, but have more restrictions and require greater commitment from
landowners.
- All existing types of informal protected areas (e.g., conservancies, community conservation areas) can be accommodated within the Biodiversity Stewardship options.
