Options

What are the options of biodiversity stewardship?

There are a range of ways that property owners can get involved in Biodiversity Stewardship. The different Biodiversity Stewardship categories mean that there is an option to suit most people. The landowner always keeps the ownership and responsibility for their property. The category of Biodiversity Stewardship chosen depends on the willingness of the landowner and the importance of the biodiversity on their land.

There are four options; the highest option is to declare all or a portion of the property as a nature reserve. This provides strong protection that will make sure the area is conserved for future generations. The higher levels of biodiversity stewardship have more benefits to the landowner, but also have more restrictions. Many of the options allow other activities to continue on the land, as long as they are compatible with conservation.
